It is exactly this aspect, which was already making the film and its producer JACQUELINE CAUX earn substantial artistic awards prior to its public availability now in 2009: For example the "Etoile de la Scam 2008", "Best Documentary Award 2007" awarded by the "Detroit Docs Festival International and Detroit Planet Art Film & Video Festival", as well as the „Prix Spécial du Jury du Festival Le Cinéma de la Musique 2006". GER _ Vers. ::  Die aktuell vorliegende, bereits im Jahr 2006 entstandene Dokumentation, die erstmals im März 2007 anlässlich eines Underground Resistance-Gigs während des Time Warp Festivals in Mannheim aufgeführt wurde, bietet dem interessierten Hörer/Betrachter einen hervorragenden Eindruck über die Wurzeln und die Entstehung des sog. „Sound of Detroit" und besticht zudem durch ihre fundiert recherchierte wie zugleich informativ unterhaltsame Art über Geschichte, Gegenwart und Zukunft der Motor City zu referieren. Und genau dieser Aspekt ist es, der dem Film und seiner Produzentin JAQUELINE CAUX schon im Vorfeld einer erst jetzt in 2009 entstandenen Verfügbarkeit auf breiterer Ebene, bereits bedeutende künstlerische Preise eingebracht hat: u.a. den „Étoile de La Scam 2008", den „Best Documentary Award 2007" verliehen durch das „Detroit Docs Festival International and Detroit Planet Art Film & Video Festival", sowie den „Prix Spécial du Jury du Festival Le Cinéma de la Musique 2006". The voice of the "spiritual mentor" of Detroit Techno, CHARLES "ELECTRIFYING MOJO" JOHNSON , who became a significant musical influence for many recent Detroit-Techno/House protagonists through his weekly radio show MIDNIGHT FUNK ASSOCIATION on WJLB DETROIT RADIO in the late 70`s and during the 80`s by suspending the boundaries of Soul, Funk, Blues and early electronic music like Kraftwerk, is leading us throughout the entire film that is conceptually divided into 10 single "cycles". Die Stimme des „spirituellen Mentors" des Detroit Techno, CHARLES „ELECTRIFYING MOJO" JOHNSON , der durch seine wöchentliche Radiosendung MIDNIGHT FUNK ASSOCIATION auf WJLB DETROIT RADIO in den späten 70er und 80er Jahre nicht unwesentlich zum musikalischen Einflussgeber für etliche heutige Detroit-Techno/House-Protagonisten avancierte und die Grenzen zwischen Soul, Funk, Blues sowie früher elektronischer Musik à la Kraftwerk aufgehoben hat, begleitet einen durch den gesamten Film, der konzeptionell  in 10 einzelne „Cycles" aufgeteilt ist. At first some crucial figures of the Detroit scene, such as TYREE GUYTON or MIKE BANKS, are being interviewed on their perception and evaluation regarding the work of "Electrifying Mojo". After this the film is switching its focus on sounds that originated in Detroit during the "pre-Techno-era", namely Gospel, Blues and Soul. Especially Soul became one of the flagships of the city after BARRY GORDY had founded his  "MOTOWN"  label. Referring to this, the documentary is providing fundamental glimpses into some Blues- and Gospel services and is then focusing on essential aspects of the 60`s – a crucial decade for the further development of the Motor City. During that time "Motown" itself became big and Detroit was not only the capital of "Rhythm and Blues", but also a metropolis for cars and the automotive industry. At this point, Jacqueline Caux is taking us into the currently present world of Jazz, Motown-Soul and Funk showing us examples of bars and clubs, where these "Detroit-inherent" musical varieties are still being celebrated. Zunächst werden einige „Schwergewichte" der Detroiter Szene wie TYREE GUYTON oder MIKE BANKS über ihre Einschätzung und Sicht hinsichtlich des Wirkens des „Electrifying Mojo" befragt. Anschließend schwenkt der Film auf Detroit originäre Sounds im „Prä-Techno-Zeitalter", nämlich Gospel, Blues und Soul über. Besonders Soul wurde ja durch das von BARRY GORDY gegründete  „MOTOWN"  Label eines „der" Aushängeschilder der Stadt. In diesem Kontext gewährt die Reportage fundamentale Einblicke in einige Blues- und Gospelgottesdienste und geht dann auf wesentliche Aspekte der 60er Jahre – ein für die weitere Entwicklung der Motor City einschlägiges Jahrzehnt- ein. In dieser Zeit wurde „Motown" selbst groß und Detroit war neben der Hauptstadt des „Rhythm and Blues" zudem die Capitole der Automobile und deren Industrie. Jacqueline Caux entführt einen hier zur weiteren Verdeutlichung in die auch heute noch präsente Welt des Jazz, des Motown-Soul und Funk und zeigt uns Beispiele aus Bars und Clubs, in denen diese „Detroit-inhärenten" Musikspielarten auch gegenwärtig noch zelebriert werden. In 1967 however, the initially stated euphoria soon came to an end during the "Civil Rights Movement" and Downtown Detroit was engulfed by violence and riots, which resulted in fires, lootings and the death of 43 people entailing the surrender of entire streets. Along with it, the film is giving us more historical footage and interviews from Detroit`s year of fate, which had rigorous social and economic consequences for the city. TYREE GUYTON subsequently became inspired by this and he created a new form of art with his HEIDELBERG PROJECT  - named after the location on Detroit`s Heidelberg Street, being highly admired by travelling Techno-tourists and also domestic Techno creators, which is dealing with the past and present in Detroit and is obtaining another new, almost oppressive aspect, whereas it is being seen as one of the most influential artistic environments world-wide. Im Jahr 1967 fand diese eingangs angesprochene Euphorie jedoch ein jähes Ende und Downtown Detroit versank während der sog. „Civil Rights Movements" in Unruhen und Ausschreitungen, die Brände, Plünderungen, 43 Tote nach sich zogen und die Aufgabe ganzer Straßenzüge zur Folge hatten. Dazu erhält man weiteres historisches Bildmaterial und Interviews aus dem Schicksalsjahr Detroits, das drastische soziale und ökonomische Folgen für die Stadt hatte. Hieraus inspiriert wurde in der Folge TYREE GUYTON, der mit seinem von zugereisten Techno Touristen wie auch von einheimischen Techno-Kreativen oft bewunderten HEIDELBERG PROJECT - leitet sich aus dem Standort Detroits Heidelberg Street ab - eine neue Form der Kunst schuf, die sich mit der Vergangenheit und Gegenwart in Detroit auseinandersetzt und noch einmal einen neuen, beinahe beklemmenden Bonusaspekt erfährt, wo es auf der anderen Seite als eines der einflussreichsten Kunst Environments weltweit gilt.   With his giant artistic sculptures positioned in the midst of a so-called "Urban Segregated Ghetto" – once inhabited mainly by drug addicts and Vietnam veterans – including its typical features of poverty, decaying buildings and a widespread neighborhood depression/frustration, the HEIDELBERG PROJECT is indeed playing an important social role as being a non-profit organization by its members - where the city`s administration itself has pitifully failed - quite alike the function of UR, who have founded and financed an entire youth center for inner city kids called "Detroit Isle of Kids" and where Mike Banks is coaching a Baseball team consisting of teenagers coming from his hood. The excursion to the "Heidelberg Project" is ending with footage of exactly these destroyed homes, industrial plants and the wasteland of abandoned neighborhoods, appropriately accompanied music wise with "Amazon" from UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE . Mit seinen gigantischen Kunst-Skulpturen in einem sog. einst vorwiegend von Drogendealern und Vietnam Veteranen bewohnten „Urban Segregated Ghetto" mit den dafür typischen Merkmalen aus Armut, verfallender Baumasse und kollektiver Neighbourhood-Depression gelegen, spielt das HP, dort wo die Stadtverwaltung selber kläglich versagt, als Non-Profit Organisation seiner Mitglieder durchaus eine soziale Rolle und Funktion ähnlich UR, die mit der "Detroit Isle of Kids" gleich ein ganzes Jugendzentrum gegründet und finanziert haben und wo Mike Banks ein Baseball-Team aus Jugendlichen seiner Neighbourhood traniert. Der Ausflug zum „Heidelberg Project" endet mit Aufnahmen von eben jenen zerstörten Häusern, Fabrikhallen und der Einöde verlassener Nachbarschaften, musikalisch passend unterlegt mit „Amazon" von UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE . Rise, fall and renewal are often knitted closely together and thus the film is continuing with another "cycle" taking us into the "Techno-present" of the city and CARL CRAIG is driving in a car while showing us the distinct boundary between rich and poor, between the "hood" and the neat suburbs, between reality and illusion. After some excursions of  MIKE BANKS  talking about Detroit,  "MOJO"  about Kraftwerk and Parliament, plus Carl Craig talking about Funk & Jazz, the DVD is then focusing on the UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE CAMP with its philosophy, which is tightly linked to the city`s downfall and the existing social problems. Aufstieg, Niedergang und Erneuerung liegen wie immer nah beieinander und so führt der Film in einem weiteren „Cycle" anschließend in die „Techno-Gegenwart" der Stadt und CARL CRAIG zeigt uns während einer Autofahrt die scharfe Grenze zwischen Arm und Reich, zwischen der „Hood" und den schmucken Suburbs, zwischen Realität und Traum. Nach Exkursen von  MIKE BANKS  über Detroit, von  „MOJO"  über Kraftwerk und Parliament, sowie von Carl Craig über Funk und Jazz, beleuchtet die DVD dann das UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE CAMP und dessen Philosophie, die eng mit dem Niedergang der Stadt sowie den existierenden sozialen Problemen verknüpft ist.   During the screen credits we are taking the deficient "DETROIT PEOPLE MOVER" through nocturnal Downtown while MOJO is once again pointing out his criteria for the development of  DETROIT TECHNO . This unique documentary that has not been made available on a broader basis until 2009, definitely is a "must" for every fan of "Planet Detroit", but also for any politically or historically interested contemporary wanting to face up to the Motor City with its historic and present features. It is a journey through time and reflection, criticism and authenticity all in one great 60-minute package, but also a wonderful musical exhibit . The main film is followed by a trailer with an interview and DJ set of Laurent Garnier. Im Abspann fährt man dann mit dem defizitären „DETROIT PEOPLE MOVER" durchs nächtliche Downtown und MOJO lässt noch einmal seine Argumente für die Entstehung des  DETROIT TECHNO  Revue passieren. Diese einzigartige Dokumentation, die leider bis 2009 nur über wenige Quellen käuflich zu erwerben war, ist definitiv ein Must für jeden Anhänger des „Planet Detroit", aber auch für jeden politisch- und geschichtlich interessierten Zeitgenossen, der sich mit der Motor City und ihren historischen wie Gegenwarts-Facetten auseinandersetzen möchte. Sie ist Zeitreise und Reflektion, Kritik und Authentizität in in einem 60 minütigen großen Ganzen, und außerdem auf jeden Fall auch ein wunderbares musikalisches Exponat .
